What Determines Cremation Costs?

Factors that determine the price of a cremation.

1.

Types of Cremation Services

No Services | Short Gathering, I.D. | Celebration of Life
What services, if any, do you have in mind? Do you want immediate direct cremation with no services? Will you have a gathering, memorial service, or celebration of life event? All funeral homes have itemized pricing so you pay for only what you choose.

2.

Place and Location of Death

Home | Hospice | Nursing Home
There should be no additional charges if the death occurs at home or in a hospice facility or nursing home.

3.

Refrigeration Facilities are Important

Onsite Refrigeration | Holidays | Urn selection
Ask, does the funeral home have refrigeration? It’s important. More so, if the cremation can not take place immediately because of Holidays or on Sunday when the crematory is closed. Perhaps the nearest of kin is unable to act promptly. It also eliminates the need for embalming and prevents decomposition.

  • Do they have a nice selection of urns that they can transfer the ashes into?
  • Type of alternative cremation container, if chosen. The alternative container is what the deceased is placed in for the cremation. A casket is NOT required.

4.

Certified copies of the death certificate

Death Certificate copies
The cremation provider should be pleased to send you a list of “reasons you need death certificates” and discuss your needs in person or on the phone. Most likely you will need to settle the financial affairs of the decedent. New York City charges $15.00 per copy plus a small administration fee depending on the quantity.
